Minco IV Wind Turbine Farm, Caddo and Canadian Counties, OK

I performed finite element numerical modeling (Plaxis3D) of wind turbine foundations as part of the technical advisory services for the proposed wind farm development in Caddo and Canadian counties in Oklahoma. The project consisted of 56 turbines founded on single tensionless piers with diameters of 16 feet and lengths ranging between 28 to 38 feet.

Rosamond 3, 4, 5, 6 Solar Development Project, Kern County, CA

I designed and supervised the pile load testing and the associated data interpretation to support the design of solar farm development in Rosemond, California.

NRG El Segundo Power Redevelopment Project, El Segundo, CA

I managed and led the geotechnical engineering efforts in support of the NRG El Segundo Power Redevelopment project in Los Angeles County, California. The geotechnical services provided in this project included foundation design recommendation, lateral earth pressure calculations, and seismic site-specific ground motion hazard analysis.

Lighthipe 220kV Substation Rebuild Project, Long Beach, CA

The project was to provide the geotechnical evaluation in support of the seismic retrofit of the control building at Lighthipe Substation in Long Beach, California. The seismic retrofit involved installation of new foundation elements around the perimeter and within the building to enhance the axial, uplift, and shear bearing capacity of the existing foundation system. The geotechnical evaluation in this project included an axial/lateral design of the proposed pile groups and a seismic hazard evaluation including seismic ground motion hazard analyses following ASCE 7-10 and ASCE 41-13 for the new and retrofitting structural elements as well as liquefaction hazard assessment.

Sharp Substation, Anaheim, CA

I led the geotechnical engineering efforts in support of the proposed developments at this substation in Anaheim, California. The geotechnical engineering services provided in this project included the geotechnical design of shallow/deep foundations, lateral earth pressure calculations for the temporary shoring and underground structures, site-specific ground motion hazard analysis, and liquefaction hazard assessment.

AT&T New Wireless Communication Sites, San Diego County, CA

Morteza managed the geotechnical investigation performed as part of the design and construction of four wireless communication cell tower sites throughout San Diego County. The improvements included equipment cabinets, concrete masonry unit walls, concrete pads, and mono-pole structures to support the communications equipment. Subsurface conditions were explored by collecting geotechnical samples for laboratory testing. Potential geologic hazards were explored by evaluating slope stability and mapping seismic design parameters. Appropriate alternatives for foundation support and engineering criteria, including estimated bearing capacity and subsurface soils settlements, for foundation design and installation were recommended.

Borax Mine T-1000 Fuel Tank, Boron, CA

Lead geotechnical engineer for the investigation supporting the replacement of a 150,000-gallon diesel fuel tank and associated facilities at the US Borax mine in Boron, California. The investigation included five borings, laboratory testing, and evaluation of undocumented fill and valley-axis deposits. The study addressed potential geologic hazards including hydro-consolidation, expansive soils, and seismic ground shaking. Geotechnical recommendations included remedial grading, shallow foundation design, slab-on-grade construction, and pavement sections.
